The HP NC8000 is another quality laptop offering from HP Computers. The NC 8000 in particular is well constructed, and solid in your hands. The HP Compaq NC8000 comes with speed and endurance. Typically the laptop battery is the achilles heel of any laptop. The HP nc8000 we tested, managed to serve up close to five hours of battery life under normal usage conditions. Above average for the typical laptop battery.
The nc8000 uses the Intel Pentium M processor with integrated wireless for extended battery life. The nc8000 runs much cooler than most laptops. During video playback, or other graphic intensive applications , there seems to be a significant increase in the heat generated. The HP Compaq NC8000 uses ATI Radeon Mobility with a maximum of 128MB of graphics memory, more than enough to power the 15 inch SXGA(1400 x 1050) or the UXGA(1600 x 1200). Great for multimedia applications, even some gaming. The HP Compaq NC8000 laptop makes a great asset for a business professionals or students.
The HP Compaq NC8000 comes with either Windows XP or Windows 2000 Pro, some bloatware, and tool we found particularly interesting; HP Protect Tools Embedded Security. When using this tool, firmware updates can only be processed using user verification, and file encryption. According to the HP website, this actually an embedded chip on the motherboard, unique to each system. It also provides a unique root encryption key to enhance other security layers, like Smart Cards, and Fingerprint Readers.
The HP Compaq NC8000 laptop comes with an HP Multi Bay, which allows users to swap out peripherals like optical drives, and other storage devices, like an additional hard drive.
There is Bluetooth support along with 802.11 b/a/g Integrated.
