Toshiba Qosimo Gaming Laptop Review
Toshiba has launched 2 new Qosimo laptops with 2 GeForce 9800M GTS cards in SLI mode, and an onboard 9400M. This in response to Apple-s recent announcement of the new MacBook coming factory loaded with two GeForce GPUs. The vice president of product development for Toshiba-s US digital products division, Carl Pinto explained that Toshiba "wanted to deliver an extreme-performing gaming machine that gives gamers a complete, non-compromising system in a laptop form factor." He also added that "The combination of the NVIDIA GPUs and chipset allowed us to achieve a high level of performance, quality and flexibility that our customers are asking for, at a competitive starting price." The advantage of this system is that under low video demand situations, the SLI mode is turned off. Each GeForce 9800 comes with 512MB Dedicated Graphics Memory.
Combine this technology with the 4GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM Hard Drive, and the additional power may be worth the investment. Other factors to consider, should be the ability to upgrade. Unfortunately, the Qosimo form factor does not allow for user upgrades to the video card. One does wonder if the investment would be better spent on a desktop model that could potentially be upgraded to a new Graphics Card next year.
